The tech told me he wouldn't install the different mobo I found because it's smaller and it might not be able to be attached to the heatsink or something like that. I'm sure I could do it myself, but I have no tools.
Is replacing a mobo just as easy as taking the old one out and putting the new one in or is there more involved? |

Asus is pretty good about accepting memory and if you have a screwdriver and a manual you can install it.
or this one I like this better I have an EVGA its very stable

I dont like MSI I have had issues with them but that me .
You dont need onboard video and while Iam all about saving money 50 buck is worth it is your computers brain.
The only hard part is the power switches because the pins are so small
Its so easy compared to the old days no jumpers god I hated jumpers...
You will need a 6 buck thing of thermal paste too.
If you learn how to do this you will never have to pay retail again |

Well if I'm going to pay over $100 I might as well just get the same one I have and get the tech to do it for free. The issue is that I don't actually have $100. And I won't have more until Friday. If I wait till I have the money I won't have a computer for another two weeks.
My current mobo is 12x8.7 ATX
the one I want to buy from tigerdirect is 9x7 mini-atx
These are the reasons they said a new mobo might be a problem. Are they essentially bullshit? I know the one about the RAM is, I don't need 4 slots.
The computer has a liquid cooling system. If the CPU socket on the new motherboard is moved slightly to the left it could make it impossible to attach the heatsink to the CPU
he motherboard the student is suggesting that we install has fewer RAM slots
-It is unknown at this time what type of mounting points are used to affix the motherboard to the case. We may be unable to be reuse the existing ones. This could cause the student to have to incur additional costs
These are issues that we envision at this time. The scenario could change once the computer is taken apart. |

So I tried ordering an identical motherboard through OIT and somehow they even failed at that, but it took them 2.5 weeks to tell me.
I went ahead and ordered the ASUS board that you linked to Craig. I still wouldn't trust myself to do it until I've seen someone else do it first hand, but I've got a few relatives who should know how.
Hopefully the only problem was with the motherboard. |

Its like a puzzle but it more mental the pieces may fit but you have to go deeper just apply logic and it will work.
I am more than happy to help aim me

I actually Just Got THis Motherboard. And IMO 10/10
and i don't give 10/10 not even to my mother!
But I bet with the bank on this ...that your mobo is actually fine and that its your power supply that took a shit...do to lack of surge protector OR lack of a fully functioning surge protector. |

Got any explanation for the resolution that refuses to change? Updated drivers, card is firmly in place.
I found a program that lets me force the resolution to what I want, but if I open a game and then quit it goes back to 640x480 with 32bit colors. All of the options are in settings, and if I try to change it, the computer tells me that the settings are new but the resolution doesn't change. |

| Did you disable the onboard video in the bios? <----Only "comp talk" I know that sounded remotely close to what you are saying. |

Tony, when you changed motherboards did you do a clean install of Windows? Going from an Intel 965P chipset to an Nvidia 750i can really screw with an OS. _________________ DarkViper

Everything works fine except for the screen resolution and that was a problem before the change. |
